Bethpage is within the Town of Oyster Bay with its own school district. The Zip Code for most of the hamlet is 11714, though the most northeastern part of Bethpage is in the Old Bethpage postal district of 11804.
Early names for the area include Bedelltown, Jerusalem, and Jerusalem Station. From about 1867 until 1936 it was known as Central Park. For many years Bethpage was home to the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, which made, among other things, the F-14 Tomcat and the Apollo Lunar Module for moon landings. (Bethpage is thus mentioned in the film Apollo 13.) Cablevision Systems Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is headquartered in Grumman's former main office.
Football: Bethpage has become famous among New York high school varsity football teams for being the home of an outstanding football program, having won 10 Nassau County and 5 Long Island Championships since 1984 when the playoffs expanded to four teams. The tradition of Bethpage football started in 1952 when Howard C. Vogts created the first team, and he has since become New York State’s all-time winningest high school varsity football coach. Vogts' remarkable career record stands at 333-112-10 mark in 52 seasons (as of 2006). Bethpages long standing homefield win streak ended when they lost to the 2004 Wantagh Warriors 24-0.
ther Points of Interest: Bethpage was the home of the Grumman plant that produced the Apollo Lunar Modules, or LEMs.
Bethpage State Park hosted the United States Open (golf) in 2002 and will play host to the event again in 2009. While much of the park and its five golf courses are located within Bethpage and Old Bethpage, the offices are within the neighboring Farmingdale postal district.

After World War II, there was a huge growth on Long Island with many GI’s wanting to live in the suburbs. Towns like Levittown sprang up over-night with affordable ranches and capes.

Long Island has a climate that is very similar to other coastal areas of the Northeastern United States; it has warm, humid summers and cold winters, but the Atlantic Ocean helps bring afternoon sea breezes that temper the heat in the warmer months and limit the frequency and severity of thunderstorms. In the wintertime, temperatures are warmer than areas further inland (especially in the night and early morning hours), sometimes causing a snowstorm further inland to fall as rain on the island. However, measurable snow falls every winter, and in many winters one or more intense storms called Nor'easters produce blizzard conditions with snowfalls of 1-2 feet (30-60 cm) and near-hurricane force winds. Long Island temperatures also vary from west to east, with the western part of the island warmer on most occasions than the east. This is due to two factors; one because the western part is closer to the mainland and the other is the western part is more developed causing what is known as the "urban heat island" effect. The eastern part is cooler on most occasions due to the ocean and sound and it being less developed.
